Where to park in Versailles?

The Palace of Versailles as we know it today dates from the 17th century. This world-famous palace in southwest Paris is an example of grandeur and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

It was Louis XIV himself who ordered the enlargement works; these lasted for several decades. The Royal Palace of Versailles is in fact a palace of excess: it has 2,300 rooms spread over more than 63,000 m2 and its park extends over 800 hectares (approximately 8,000 hectares at the time). Until the French Revolution, the Palace of Versailles was a political but also a cultural center, hosting playwrights like Molière or composers like Lully. Three kings of France have inhabited this château: the Sun King, great-grandson Louis XV, and the latter’s grandson Louis XVI.

Every year thousands of visitors come to visit the Palace of Versailles and its 800-hectare park, located about ten kilometers bird’s-eye line from Paris and southwest of the capital. Despite the Château Rive Gauche RER station, the Palace of Versailles is a bit removed from the capital; the ideal solution is therefore to park your car in an underground car park near the Palace of Versailles, from where you can walk to the residence of Louis XIV.

It’s wise to book your underground car park in Versailles online and thus guarantee your parking space. But you prefer to leave your car in Paris and then take the RER to Versailles? That’s also possible!

To make the most of your visit to the Palace of Versailles and its gardens, it’s recommended to book a car park in Versailles; the ( underground) parking Château de Versailles – Boulevard de la Reine might appeal to you. This low-cost underground car park is located a 15-minute walk from the Palace of Versailles. After leaving your car there, you can enjoy your visit to Versailles with peace of mind, visiting its palace and gardens, relaxing in its café lounge, and thus enjoying the restaurant service!
